We're Going to Disney World!

It's been a long time coming, but the time has come for a "real" vacation. The family and I are headed to Disney World tomorrow and won't be back until the 2nd of April.

The kids and wife are very excited, but I'm not as stoked as they seemed to be. I don't know why? Possibly it's the thought of controlling four kids while we're at the "happiest" place on earth. It's not the older ones I'm worried about, they're 10 (x2). The little ones just get a little out of control at times, our daughter is 4 and my son is 2. Hopefully, I'm just stressing all for naught.

As long as the kids and my wife have a good time all will be well with me. My blog will be left unattended and no posts will be made until my return. I will miss the blogs I peruse and the comments and feedback I receive from the readers of my blog. Hope all is well with everyone.

Til next week.

My Son the TV Murderer

On Wednesday night after dinner I was doing the dishes, my wife was trying to wined down from a long day at work and as usual the kids were being wild as they tend to be after dinner. The winter doldrums have really start to set in at the house. The last couple of weeks the kids have become a little more stir crazy as each day passes.

My son Happy is at times a little overly wild and likes to run through the house, sometimes in circles like a dog chasing his tables. Wednesday was no exception, Happy was doing his usual running dance. I asked him to calm it down a few times, seeing that he was getting a little out of control and that usually lead to him hurting himself or more than likely his older sister. Brooke always seems to be in Happy's path just as he falls or lunges and sometimes gets hit by his unusually large melon we call his head. The thing is hard as a rock and has been known to bloody some noses and leave welts on other noggins.

This time it wasn't my daughter, wife or even myself that fell victim to Happy's wildness. It was are 52" RCA projection screen TV. As Happy was running circles, the TV was on cartoons as it often is. For some reason he broke his circle and ran straight for the TV. With his hands out and a full head of steam "Meathead" ran directly into it. As I watched in horror screaming "NO HAPPY" the force he used actually lifted the TV off the ground and into the wall behind it. The TV came to a rest, as the the screen turned black and then off completely. By the time the TV settled I was in the living room reprimanding Happy for his actions. Julie came out of the bathroom looking for an explanation of what just transpired. I explained it to her as I tended to the TV. As I pushed it away from the wall to make sure all the connections were still plugged in I bent over and smelled a burning odor coming from the back of the set. Everything in the back looked fine except for the smell, Julie switched the TV on and it came on for a few seconds with no picture, some muffled sounds, a couple of creaks and then back off. It seems that Happy has murdered the TV.

Happy spent the next few minutes in his room after we explained to him that what he did was wrong. Once we came back to bring Happy out he was visually upset that he had broke the TV and apologized repeatedly to everyone. It wouldn't have been such a big deal if it wasn't the largest and only TV in the house. Yes, we are a family that only has one TV. This is mainly due to just not replacing old sets that have departed from our bedrooms due to age and defectiveness. The economic situation has hit us hard in the past few months with me losing my job back in October and having no luck finding a new one.

We have managed to gather enough money up in our savings account to replace the TV, so we have been doing research and the kids get to watch 1 DVD a piece on the laptop while we look for the best deal we can find. Happy has woken up the past few days looking at the broken TV in the living room and I have even caught him apologizing to the TV set itself. I positive this won't be the last or maybe even the most expensive thing he'll break during his childhood. Happy, I still love you no matter how much of a "Meathead" you are.

Brain Freeze

My son's favorite snack is frozen yogurt, you know the tubes of yogurt. We put them in the freezer and the kids love them, not to mention they are a lot less messy that way.

If you knew my son you would see he is your typical 2 year old boy, wild and rambunctious. He has a few nicknames i.e. Meathead, Bubba and Bubby (after the Steelers QB). His middle name is Happy which is the name he goes by. Yes I too am an idiot and named him after a movie character. Happy Gilmore is by far my favorite movie character of all time and I still to this day have a man crush on Adam Sandler no matter how bad his movies have gotten.

If you remember anything about Happy Gilmore and the way the movie began plotting out Happy's life to the present tense. You would remember young Happy as a spazz who overreacted to everything, but was always quick to apologize and was all heart to the core. Well, the name for my son has really stuck and it is amazing how much he is like the movie character they showed in his younger days.

This gives you some background to my son's relationship with himself and his snacks. He attacks the frozen yogurt as if someone was standing behind him ready to take it. As we all learn as we get older, eating extremely cold items very quickly is not good for the teeth or your head. No matter how many times it happens Happy always gives himself brain freeze by taking huge bites of yogurt, but his remedy to cure it is the most hilarious and scary part.

When the brain freeze sets in Happy's eyes get squinty and then he starts to shake his head and off like a dart he runs directly into the closest wall he can find. This is at full speed most of the time, thankfully he hasn't put his head down yet and cracked it open, but once he bounces back up from the collision he gives his head another shake, looks back to his yogurt and takes a smaller bite.

I guess he is slowly learning, but his method of remembering to not do it again, like himself is a little rough.

That's my son, I couldn't be more proud.

Wii Fit: Days 5-8

I know, I know. I have been slacking in the reporting of my daily Wii Fit activities. No, it is not, because I have not been using it either. We've just been really busy and with the NFL offseason officially kicking off this weekend with free agency, I have been super busy keeping Touchdown Dance frequently updated. Fear not, I have been keeping up with the workouts at about a 45 minute a day clip.
The workouts have been getting a little more tough with added reps and new exercises, but unfortunately the weight has been coming off at all. I'm actually .2 pounds over what I started at. Even with this seemingly depressing news I have been having fun with the Wii Fit and I do have to say I have been feeling like I've been accomplishing something even with the results not being there as of yet. Plus, my Wii Fit age is constantly dropping, I'm down to 29 Wii Fit years.
I have unlocked all of the exercises now, some of the yoga poses are extremely tough for me, but trying them does stretch out muscles that have never been stretched before. The strength training is becoming more difficult, but I do see a need to invest in some barbells. Some of the exercises use the Wii controller as the weight and that is just not enough resistance for me and really is a waste of my time towards building any kind of muscle mass. I have really improved my scores in the aerobic exercises, burning a lot of calories.
These are my favorite programs in each of the four activity groups.
Yoga- Sun Salutation, Palm Tree, Chair, Spinal Twist and Bridge
Strength- Plank, Jacknife, Torso Twist, Single Leg Ext. and Triceps Ext.
Aerobics- Hula Hoop, Advance Step, Rhythm Boxing, Run (Island Lap) and Basic Step
Balance- Ski Jump, Hocus Focus, Ski Slalom, Bubble Roll and Fish Catch
I will continue my journey to lose 15 pounds with the Wii Fit, I have 81 days an counting with 15.2 pounds to go. Wish me luck.
