Mrs. ASSHATS of the Week

This week I'm handing out two ASSHATS of the weeks. Both of them go to woman which I both had run-ins with today. They both involve driving, one of which deals with driving ineptitude and none use of vehicle features and the other deals with attitude, ineptitude and just plain idiocracy. Lets begin.

My first Mrs. ASSHAT of the week goes to a lady driving a Jaguar and cut me off while on my way to Wal-Mart. Now her cutting me off is not the main reason for her bringing home this fine award of supreme ASSHATTINESS. I could have been in her blind spot, but to not use your turn signal is just plain wrong. I have had a growing anger for people that have forgotten how to use the turn signal. I see it on a daily basis and it probably causes its fair share of accidents. Really, are turn signals an option when you buy a car now, because it sure seems that way. So if you see a lady driving a black Jaguar in the Western Suburbs of Chicago and it bears the Illinois license plate 498 0777 feel free to give her a finger or two.

My second Mrs. ASSHAT award goes to the lady driving the Honda Odyssey in the Wal-Mart parking lot this morning. As I was driving through the parking lot looking for a parking space this purveyor of supreme ASSHATTINESS came inches from t-boning us. This was all due to her driving ineptitude and lack of parking lot awareness. Instead of backing out of her spot like most people she decided to pull forward through the empty spot in front of her. This is fine when done at the back of the lot where your vision isn't impaired by other vehicles, but in this case it was at the front of the lot and her vision was impaired by two large vehicles. This caused her to nearly hit us as she pulled into the driving lane we were passing through. Not only did she almost hit us as I layed on the horn she gave me a dirty look as if I was in the wrong. If you see a lady, any lady driving a black Hona Odyssey please for me give her a finger or two. Parking lot etiquette is also a lost past time. With people that pull these kinds of stunts, can't park straight or park in the middle of driving lanes just to wait for that front spot so their fat asses won't have to walk an extra 50 feet to the door of the store.

I have had my drivers license for 15 years now. It has been increasingly clear that the art of driving has become a lost skill. Will they give anyone license these days? Not to mention all the illegal aliens driving around without insurance and legality. When are governments going to notice that driving is not only a privilege, but is also a skill which has become more and more difficult with every passing year. This is due to the increasing numbers of drivers and cars on the roads. Driving tests need to become more difficult in both on the road and written tests. Not everyone should have or deserves a license. Yes, in a free country everyone should have the opportunity to obtain a license, but make the tests so only the drivers with real driving skills and aptitude are able to obtain them. Not only will this cut back on accidents, but also pollution with less cars on the road. Build up a strong infrastructure for public transportation for those who are not able to obtain licenses. I know this is a pipe dream of mine and roads will become more congested with inept drivers year after year. Most of them who will drive without paying attention (cell phones, singing, site-seeing, talking), knowing the rules of the road (who goes first at a 4 way stop sign), proper driving etiquette (parking lots, highways, freeways, stay out of the left lane slow-pokes) and more importantly the skill to drive proactively so not to have to react, but act before things go tragically wrong.
