What's the Rule? #6

It always seems that I find myself in interesting/questionable situations at the grocery store. Today it involved my daughter, a drinking fountain and a lady that was a little too helpful for my liking? The kids and I were standing in line at the grocery store earlier today and my daughter noticed a drinking fountain not too far away. She asked if she could run over and get a drink, I told her yes and she ran over to it. She quickly came back complaining she wasn't tall enough to reach. I was unloading the groceries onto the belt so I told her she would have to wait until we returned to the car for a drink that we had brought with us. The older lady behind us in line asked if she could help my daughter at the water fountain while I held her place in line. With the unfortunate state of society today, a million of bad scenarios ran through my head. Should I have let the elderly lady help my daughter?

What's the Rule?

Was the old lady just trying to be helpful?

Was she up to no good and planning on doing something bad to her while I was busy unloading my cart?

Could of she had some illness that she could have passe to my daughter? (Knock on wood, the kids have been relatively healthy all winter.)

What's the Rule?

I chose to keep my daughter near me and refuse the help of the elderly lady. The thought of being preoccupied with keeping my son (2) from jumping out of the cart and unloading at the same time, I just didn't feel safe letting her take my daughter the 50 feet away. My daughter wasn't even thirsty, when we got back to the car she was no longer worried about getting a drink. The elderly lady did seem hurt by the situation, but if something did happen I could have never forgiven myself. I let the elderly lady cut in front of me (she only had a few items) to do my best to console her feelings.

Right there with you. . . . last weekend a guy picked up my 2 year old at Target. Mind you I live in a relatively small valley, so you do see some of that small town nicey nice stuff. However, I can't help but think what the hell was he after? Is he a child molester?

Was it innocent or not. . . I'll never know. But I will check out the sex offender website to see if he's on it! How ridiculous is that?

I wish we didn't have to be this careful now. It seems when we were kids it these kinds of things wern't that prevelant. But if you wish in one hand and shit in the other, you know which one would fill up first.
